Zoom on… The Singer Shop from ferns managed by Joackim and Gaelle Maupilé.
The Singer store, where is it?
In 2019, a cell of approximately 70 m2 in its raw state, never sold, never rented, located at the entrance to the Intermarché shopping center, boulevard Saint-Germain in Fougères, caught the attention of Joackim and Gaêlle Maupilé, at the search for a commercial space in order to create a shop selling sewing machines from the famous Singer brand.
The negotiations are successful, major work begins and the shop opens in September 2019.
Who are Joackim and Gaëlle Maupilé, the managers?
Singer sewing machines no longer hold any secrets for Joackim, who from 1990 until 2019 was an employee of the brand, responsible for managing the stores in the Great West.
In 2007, Gaëlle, an EDF employee since 2002, took leave to start a business to gain ten years of experience in catering.
In 2019, the couple plans to open their own shop selling Singer sewing machines in Fougères.
In September 2019, their goal is achieved, the shop opens its doors to the delight of a clientele passionate about sewing waiting for this opening.
Alongside the store in Fougères, Joackim and Gaëlle manage three sewing machine sales corners at Mondial Tissus in Rennes Saint-Grégoire, Le Mans and Granville, a project for a new opening is taking shape.
What’s a day in the Singer store like?
The shop is open Monday to Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. – 6 p.m. on Saturday. “The day begins with administrative work, opening mail, emails… On Wednesdays, I take care of orders for sewing machines and spare parts, but also for the small household appliances that we sell at the store, such as ironing boards, vacuum cleaners, irons, etc.,” explains Joackim Maupilé.
Singer offers a wide variety of sewing machines, from the simplest for beginners to the professional, including embroidery, electronics or sergers. “I provide sales and after-sales service for all equipment, I provide advice on how to use them and my skills, at the store and at customers’ sites, I travel for home deliveries and repairs”, continues the manager.
“We have 300 fabric references in stock, a selection of haberdashery and creative hobbies. During the health crisis, many young women took up sewing to make masks, since many of them have invested in a sewing machine and are making accessories and clothes for children. With Delphine our saleswoman, we provide reception, sales and advice on all our equipment”.
