“This work is essential and at the same time it hurts my stomach! Business leaders are mobilized but this remains insufficient. We are faced with a cultural problem: between intentions and realities, we must pass this course collectively to quickly switch to a carbon-free economy”.
Friday morning in the amphitheater of ISPAIA, in Ploufragan. The general delegate of the Côtes d’Armor Business Movement, Sklaërenn Beauto, reacts to an intervention by Jean-Marc Jancovici, by videoconference from Rennes. The president of the Shift Project think tank has just mentioned the need to set up “a war economy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 5% per year and have a chance of staying below a 2°C increase in global temperature”.
Intra-industry job shifts
What jobs, then, in this economy to be decarbonized? The Shift Project foresees, for example, intra-sector shifts but has only focused, for the moment, on four million jobs in agriculture, housing, the mobility industry and transport. According to him, jobs in agriculture will increase, those in the food industry will decrease. It directs more jobs towards renovation than in new constructions “to be divided by two”. It predicts fairly stable employment volumes in the mobility and transport industry, but with large labor shifts, for example from the automobile to the bicycle economy.
Seen from Brittany, the regional director of Cnam says he oscillates between prospective and current deployment. “In the food industry, we are talking about more than 500,000 jobs, including 370,000 in market gardening,” says Laurent Buchon. We must ask ourselves the question of training standards for what skills to put in place to train young people and people in retraining in a sector that has difficulty recruiting. As for the briochine shifter Gaëlle Lescombat, co-organizer of the round table with Innozh, she suggests “a planning of objectives and constraints, more and more requested by economic actors, so that the rules of the game are the same for everyone ” .
Decarbonization not always a priority
Renewable marine energies in development, emerging hydrogen sector, last mile and bio-waste logistics, digital professions… , action must be taken within ten years. So you first have to use mature technologies and aim for sobriety,” says Régis Janvier, from KarbonEthic.
Another reality check, on the Lamballe Terre et Mer side, according to a survey by the urban community: 41 companies in the industry replied, in 2021, that decarbonization was not a priority.
