Payerne wants to give itself the means of its ambitions
Sustainability, mobility, trade, integration and green spaces are on the menu of the Municipality’s roadmap.

The reassignment of the former abbey museum into exhibition halls is part of the measures provided for in the Payerne legislature programme.

What will Payerne look like by 2026? Coming into office in July 2021, the Municipality asked itself this question during its first months of activity. She drew from it a legislative program entitled “Payerne, city of ambitions”, which was presented to the public on Monday.
“The document is presented along four major lines, around twenty issues and several key measures. To achieve these objectives, the Municipal Council has agreed to raise our debt ceiling to 80 million francs”, recalled the trustee Eric Küng.
“If we want to move forward one day in this underground car park project, we must plant milestones and finance archaeological excavations.”
“City of actions, city of tomorrow, city of companies and city of connections” represent the four main lines of work. Jumbled up, the resulting issues range from sustainability to project management, including sport and culture, tourism, integration, mobility, heritage, commerce and green spaces.
If the realization of the Place Général-Guisan looks like a big piece, the redevelopment of the Grand’Rue and the rue de Lausanne or the creation of 30 km/h or meeting zones are also on the program. The Executive is also planning major resources to upgrade the old slaughterhouses, which have been closed for ten years.
Concord in question
The document was warmly welcomed by the citizens present, mostly elected members of the Municipal Council, but several questions were raised. The future of the future sports area, planned for ages in the area of La Palaz, worries, knowing that during this time, the current infrastructures are declining. The municipal official, Nicolas Schmid, assured that he was concerned about the file.
Two spectators also regretted the absence of the project of Place de la Concorde underground car park. “If we want to move forward one day in this file, we must plant milestones and finance archaeological excavations,” said the architect Dominique Sartori.
